PSK Beekeeping arose from a very specific problem at the apiary. When Marco took over beekeeping from his father Hanni, he quickly noticed how cumbersome the documentation was. Paper hive books stuck together, got lost, or were illegible. Apps were hardly usable with gloves on, and the smartphone quickly got smeared with propolis. What was needed was a system that worked quickly, sturdily, and professionally—right at the hive, not at the desk. Together with Christoph, he therefore developed the PSK. After initial prototypes with stickers and individually purchased pins, they decided on a sturdy rigid foam board with UV-resistant direct printing. The card is attached to the outside of the hive and marked with 15 pins. No writing, no typing—a glance is enough. Even before there was an app, they conducted an internal study: Beekeepers with at least 20 colonies documented ten colonies each for a year with the PSK and ten with their previous method. The result was clear: The documentation was just as reliable but six times faster with the PSK. Over time, the digital addition was added. Tim from Göttingen programmed the app "PSK Beekeeping." The placed pins can be scanned and automatically digitized. This creates a seamless history of each colony—quickly at the stand, precisely in the office. This very combination of physical sturdiness and digital evaluation is the core of PSK Beekeeping. At the same time, Marco and Christoph built a strong community. On social media, they share expertise and humor; at fairs like EuroBee, the card became known to a wide audience. To this day, they answer every email personally. From the community, further products emerged: the beekeeping notebook, over 300 rhymed beekeeping rules, humorous postcards, practical helpers for everyday life, and the board game "Beekeeper – The Game," which makes a whole bee year playable. What began near Trier is now international. The PSK is available in several languages and is used in many European countries as well as in Canada. Christoph is responsible for storage and shipping, Marco for product development and communication. PSK Beekeeping is not a corporate project but the story of a teacher and a master carpenter who keep bees themselves. Our goal was never to make beekeeping more complicated—but simpler. Less paper, less chaos, more overview. From beekeepers for beekeepers. 🐝
